Wilton Windmill is now closed for the winter and reopens on Friday 15th April 2022.  We won't be milling any more flour until then but there are plenty of bags still available in our normal outlets.  A team of willing volunteers have given the entire mill a thorough autumn clean before it went into hibernation for the winter.  But lots is still happening in the background to keep the mill in good order, you may have noticed that the cap has recently been repainted and is now looking very smart.

Talking of smart, we have recently been participating in an exciting high tech project with a group called 'Smartmolen' who are developing a system to monitor the wind speed and direction that windmills are exposed to.  There are currently four windmills in the trial, Wilton, Upminster, Stock and Fulwel.  You can have a look at the facinating data being captured live in the beta version of the software by clicking the Smartmolen link. Smartmolen are also very excited because on Saturday 13th November their project entry is being judged for an award by the The British Association of Friends of Museums, BAFM, which encourages, informs and advises friends, supporters and volunteers of museums, galleries, and other cultural organisations in all sections of our UK heritage.  We wish them every success!
