The New Shepherd's Hut
A vital part of the Windmill's infrastructure is being replaced -
the Shepherds Huts which provide our refreshment, shop and ticket
sales facility had become unfit for purpose and beyond sustainable
repair.
We will be replacing them with a single, purpose-built structure
that is slightly bigger than the current huts but still very much
in keeping with the uniqueness of the site.
It will look very similar from the outside and the cast
iron wheel base will be retained, but it will give us the much
needed additional space for shelter for school parties when they
visit as well as storage.
It will be more secure and free from damp - both major issues in the old huts.
Through hard work from our volunteers and lots of support from
customers, members and friends, together with a grant from the
North Wessex Downs AONB, the necessary funds have been realised.
Thank you to everyone who has contributed - look out for information on the hut opening event in the spring. The impact of having the new facilities is very positive - now that we will have a warm, dry seating area, we are also creating an Education Pack for school visits. Further information will be released on the website once it is available. |
